Aly Aramento: BEGINNING EP

What inspires your music?

I think, like most artists, I’m inspired by the things and people around me, as well as my own life experiences. One of the songs that will be released later was actually something I wrote during a panic attack as a way to get the feelings out, which I think is actually pretty funny. I am very lucky to have this outlet.

How did you start your recording career?

I started when I was at Berklee in 2017. I had posted a performance video from one of my classes and Roy just happened to come across it on Facebook. When he first messaged me, I thought it was fake because that stuff never really happens! I researched him a bit and learned he was legit, so we made plans for me to fly up to Toronto the following February to record.

How did you come up with your single(s)?

Both Home and Closure were super collaborative projects. I was fortunate enough to not only work with Roy as a producer, but also Carlos Battey as a co-writer. We sent texts back and forth for a few days about what vibes we wanted the songs to have individually and how they would all fit together on an EP. Carlos and I had a phone call to discuss the meaning behind them both and certain vocalizations for different sections. I learned so much from these guys and I am so honored to have worked with them!

What is your genre of music?

I would definitely say it’s a healthy mix of Pop and R&B, with just a pinch of Musical Theater thrown in; that’s where my musical roots lie.

 Who are your influences?

I’d say my biggest influences are Tori Kelly, Sara Bareilles, Christina Grimmie (I actually have tattoos inspired by her and Sara), The Script, Billie Eilish, etc. It’s quite a mix, but I think I include components that they all have in my own songs.

 How do you define success?

When I think of a successful person, I picture someone who did everything they could to reach their goal in life; whether that means they’ve made it to where they want to be, or they’re still on the journey to get there. I believe hard work is how you measure a person’s success, and not necessarily where they are in life or what they have.

What can we expect from you in 2021?

Hopefully some big and exciting stuff! The first two songs are already out, and two more are on the way. I’m hoping we can get the ball rolling on some new music as well, even if we have to do it in separate states, or even separate countries. We’ve done it before!
