Lakemont: Better Than Before
How did Lakemont get started and who came up with the name?
Coincidentally enough, Lakemont started during quarantine! We have all been friends since high school and have been playing music together for years, but the actual project of Lakemont, did not start until quarantine since we had so much time to create music together. Our drummer, Dustin Yeary, actually came up with the band name because Dustin and Alyssa Yeary lived on a street called Lakemont Place; so “Lakemont” was where we first created music. He pitched it to us and we all instantly loved it.
What's the main message of your music?
The songs we write are about personal experiences that we have had in our lives. Our goal in writing such personal, vulnerable lyrics is that we want people to feel less alone when listening to our music. Breakups and relationships can suck sometimes, so our message is that we want to help put in words feelings that we all feel which can help others feel less alone when going through the same situation.
Who are your biggest influences?
Each member of our band has different musical tastes, so individually we all have different influences, but as a band Two Door Cinema Club, Post Malone, Paramore, and many more bands have really influenced our music. We admire Two Door Cinema Club’s memorable electric guitar lead lines and make sure that each of our songs has that element paired with a catchy vocal melody as well.
How do you manage to stay creative with all the current changes?
As devastating as quarantine was for many people, it was honestly such a blessing for us. It has given us even more time to create music/content and start a new habit of making time to create music together. Honestly, Lakemont would probably not exist yet if it were not for quarantine. It even inspired us to move to Nashville, TN to pursue our music dreams even further! Since we are all living in a house together and things are still shut down for the most part, we are creating all the time.
What can we expect from you in 2021?
Our goal is to have an EP released by Spring 2021 as well as so many more music videos, creative content, merch, and more songs! We cannot wait to share with you what we have been working on.
