Monét: Summer Wind

What inspires your music?
Usually personal experiences inspire my music. Music is a really therapeutic experience for me and it allows me to just lay out all my feelings on the table and ruminate over them. I try to channel all those feelings into music and allow myself to be inspired by real emotions and events. I think you can always tell when music comes from a real and vulnerable place and generally that’s the music that really touches and inspires me. I want my music to do the same for others and just help others not feel alone in their experiences.

How did you start your recording career?
I started recording music around 2017 using a 50$ little blue yeti snowball microphone to record my music. I wasn’t really sure what I was doing at the time and a lot of times I still feel like I have no idea what I am doing, but in that moment I just knew I needed to speak my truth and record something. Fast forward a couple months I am making a lot of songs, but i’m not sure how to actually make them sound good. Anyways I take an uber one day and my uber driver is playing these lofi beats and I was really into that at the time so I start freestyling over them. I find out that my uber driver is actually also an audio engineer at a studio and he gives me his card. I think once I started recording I started to take recording music a bit more seriously and started to really understand how to build songs.

What is your (EP/Single) called? How did you come up with it?
My single that I just dropped is called “Summer Wind.” I was feeling really conflicted in a relationship where I felt the two extremes of love and hate and I kind of just channeled those emotions into some chords and a vocal melody. A small idea and a feeling is how I usually start my songs. Once I've solidified that the rest comes naturally and I build the song over time.

What is your genre of music?
This is a hard question because I take a lot of influence from other genres. I have a special place in my heart for simple dreamy and nostalgic chords from indie rock songs and I also love hard hitting drums from trap and hip hop music. I think Summer Wind is a blend of these two genres creating kind of an indie alternative r&b bedroom pop type of sound.

Who are your influences?
I grew up listening to a lot of soft voiced indie female singers such as Gregory and the Hawk and Frankie Cosmos. I’ve always really loved how they had such calming voices but still had the ability to create powerful and beautiful songs. I also really love artists like King Krule, Dijon, and Beabadobee. I think these artists really capture the spirit of indie music well in their unique voices and raw diy approach.

How do you define success?
Success to me is just creating powerful music that moves the heart and soul. I want to make music that helps people, but also helps me to understand myself better. I think just getting to a point of mastery in my own form of self expression is success. I think once you do that everything else will come second.

What can we expect from you in 2020?
A couple more single and possibly an ep by the end of 2020 so keep on the look out!
