What inspires you music?

Like many artists, I think it really depends on where I am momentarily or a past situation I’ve encountered and never really dealt with it. I love being a story teller and one of the key things to being that is by making it believable. Lately, i’ve been writing about relationships and the kind that I’d like to have one day so I see it as speaking it into existence. Another side to love I talk about refers to me having a healthier mind-set and loving myself which I’m going to touch onto more this year because there’s so many aspects I am working on healing and managing so that it doesn’t stop me from being who I wanna be anymore. I also want people to listen and be inspired out of any situation they’re going through because they know there is actually someone out there who can relate.

What is your album called? How did you come up with it?

My latest single ‘I Do’ touches on some things that tend to get lost within the message of love making music sometimes which is allowing the person you want to pursue to be able to say whether they want it back or not. I think I was just at a point in my life where I really didn’t understand what the other person wanted from me and it left me really confused. So, honestly, this song was just having a conversation with myself about being honest about my feelings and giving the other person a chance to tell me what they want in return and not necessarily what I wanna hear. So, consent and consideration was the main message behind this song.

What is your genre of music?

My music definitely derives from influences within R&B, Soul like Whitney Houston, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and more contemporary artists like Chris Brown, Jhene Aiko, Tank, Tori Kelly, SZA, Sabrina Claudio etc. However, being in the UK has made me open my creativity in other ways that represent my background and the music culture here. I grew up around a lot of Reggae, Soca and Bashment so I’ve always embraced my Caribbean side. And more recently I’m loving the Afrobeat/Afrowave movement which I like to infuse whether it be in the rhythm or the baseline.

How do you describe success?

Well, I used to think of the word success and instantly imagine millions of pounds around me lol. But now I think success is really personal to whatever goal you want to achieve. Not everybody wants to be a millionaire or live in the biggest mansion on the street. Some people just want to settle down and have a family, look after their communities, or write their own book. Whatever it may be, it’s ensuring you have concrete goals that you’re working towards, having a positive mentality to get yourself back up when you do have your bad days and working hard all the time to achieve them.

What can we expect from you in 2020?

There are so many things that I am looking to accomplish this year! The ones that aren’t set in stone are between me and my vision board until further notice haha. But, I’m definitely going to be more present whether it be online or doing more live shows. I’m working on releasing more visual content like official music videos and an upcoming EP (*starts dancing*). Also, plenty more projects I’ve written and put together for different seasons. Such as, Summer jams, Slow jams, acoustic or winter jams. I’m an independent artist so it will definitely be more intense than someone with all the help around them but I have a lot of belief in myself to just let go and let God this year. Just expect to see me fully being the artist I’ve dreamt and prayed of being for a very long time.
