Aimee Saturne: Don’t Tell My Boyfriend

What inspires your music?

My life, love and lust. I’ve always written about personal experiences and I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing that. Every song I write has a story, and in a way it’s become a diary of sorts. Music can be interpreted so differently that it’s such a beautiful thing to write about your own experiences and see that you’re not alone no matter what you're writing about.

How did you start your recording career?

Since I was very young I've had a passion for all things arts and creativity, from acting to music. I loved singing and YouTube became this platform where anyone could see you do your thing no matter what it was. I gathered some equipment and started recording and uploading covers on there and that was my first experience. After that there was no stopping me from furthering my music and I began writing my own songs.

How did you come up with your single?

It always makes me laugh because I walked into the studio and said “don’t tell my boyfriend, but...” and it inspired the entire song from there. All in all it was definitely a personal situation. The song explains the rest!

What is your genre of music?

I’m a dark pop artist! While I like to dabble in different genres at any given point, this one seems to have fit me and my style the best and I just love the tone it sets. Dark and moody, but will still make you want to move. I'm grateful to have always kind of known exactly how I wanted my sound to be, and to have the opportunity to work with such amazing people to make it all come to fruition.

Who are your influences?

I pull inspiration from many different artists and really they’re all in completely different genres than my own. In fact, some aren’t even singers. Amy Winehouse has always been my be all and end all, though. Her tendency to be blatantly honest and lay her heart out on the line in music was always something I related to. That influenced me to stay true to myself in my writing. But there’s also Nirvana, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Marilyn Monroe just to name a few. All very different for very different reasons.

How do you define success?

To me success can be a multitude of things, but in music, it's waking up in the morning and having another day ahead of you of doing what you love and only what you love, how you love to do it. It’s finding people who can relate to you and who can understand you on a deeper level through your music no matter the topic. Escapism from time to time is important and to be able to help people achieve that through my music on a larger scale would be a dream.

What can we expect from you in 2020?

This year has definitely been a doozy. Musically I’ve released my debut single, I've been working diligently on my record and recently launched new merch. The year's almost out but I’ve still got a trick or two up my sleeve. Next year better buckle up though. That’s all I’ll say about that!
